So I had this whole post in my head. I was dying to write it this morning. It was all about the ‘outtakes’ of the play.
Moments like the one below, when Brooke was standing on stage and someone else was talking and she was, well, doing this …
And I had a whole bunch of them.
There was this one ..
And this one ..
And this one …
And this one ..
And of course this one ..
*
And I was going to put all kinds of pithy little captions on the pictures.
Cause you know, that’s what I do.
But mostly I was going to tell about you my absolute favorite moment in the whole kit and kaboodle. The one when Brooke had the line that got the laugh.
“Absolutely horrible!”
(That was the line, in case you wanted to know).
And since I don’t have time to tell you the context, you’re just going to have to take my word for the fact that it was funny. Like really funny. And that it got a big, hearty, sincere laugh from the audience.
But mostly I wanted to tell you about how as soon as we all laughed, Brooke had this moment – this glorious, perfect moment – and she looked up and she smiled and she literally bathed in the glow of her connection with the audience – knowing that we were laughing with HER – that SHE had spread joy and sparked laughter. It was magic.
And I wanted to tell you how she then did what anyone would do in that kind of moment – she burst into song, because well, isn’t that what you do? And so in the middle of the show on the middle of the makeshift stage in the middle of the room, my girl belted out ..
DREIDEL DREIDEL DREIDEL I MADE IT OUT OF CLAY! AND WHEN IT’S DRY AND READY, MY DREIDEL I SHALL PLAY!
And it was absolutely perfect.
(But I don’t have time to do any of it justice because my alarm didn’t go off this morning which I’m thinking was God’s way of forcing me into the damn Oxygen Mask, but anyway I’m running REALLY late now, so this is going to have to suffice. So um, bye.)
I am laughing with her. Brooke is perfect! Everything is perfect! Thanks for the perfect way to begin my day!
Love you,
Mom
She is a wondrous gift, that girl. And, hey, what’s a show without a little extemporaneous song, right? I suspect everyone else thought it was pretty perfect, too.
THAT IS EXACTLY THE SAME SONG I BREAK INTO DURING WORK MEETINGS!
I adore her. She does the things that I feel, but am too cowardly to do.
I love the pictures! My son bursts into song, too, when he is excited about making interpersonal connections. For him, 90% of the time he belts out The Veggie Tales theme song. π
THAT is a beautiful moment. And I know JUST how that feels. And it’s an awesome feeling. How wonderful she did it, and she GOT it! LOVE love LoVe. xoxoxoxo
oh, and p.s. My girl sings too…to calm herself down. It’s usually the ABC’s or twinkle twinkle little star.
Love her! And, once again, she inspires me.
I’m laughing and crying at the same time. What a great image.
Beautiful, wonderful girl! I’ll be smiling over that today π
congratulations on the performance and critical acclaim! btw all of those pictures are YOU, especially #5.
If I had that hat, I’d sing, too. : )
Beautiful girl, inside and out.
I think that’s the perfect reaction. π My daughter sings to herself all the time, and I love it.
love it! my son sings too…these days it’s usually harry chapin songs or the ABCs. the aide on the bus says he serenades the kids every day on the bus, haha.
Thank you.
I just love that you used kit and kaboodle, as that was one of Rojo’s vocab “words” this week! Now, back to the mask!
So you’re ending this beautiful post apologizing for getting up late? It would have taken me a month to put together something like that… But seriously, I will check out Drama David for our prince next year.
Hilarious!! And wonderful! Thanks for the smile today.
