katie’s birthday party — in a minute and a half

a rubber duck cake – cause, why not?

Yesterday was Katie’s birthday party.

She wanted her sister to come. She even invited Becky to come along so that Brooke would have a friend there.

It was hard.

And it was wonderful.

And then it was really, really hard.

And then it was really, really wonderful.

And then it was nearly unbearable.

And then it was so wonderful that I almost forgot about the nearly unbearable. Except not. Because that’s the thing about the nearly unbearable — no matter how wonderful the really wonderful may be, it can never seem to completely eclipse the nearly unbearable.

But in the end, Katie was happy. And that — none of the other stuff; just that — was what mattered.

The end.

  1. I’m so sorry about the unbearable but delighted that it all turned out for Katie and, therefore, for you.

    Love you,
    Mom

  2. Well, yanno, Katie knows the risk, but wanted to include her sister anyway. That to me speaks volumes. And as long as Katie was happy, that is ALL that matters, and if you don’t try, it will always be unbearable, remember the stove? So, kudos to Katie, the most wonderful sister ever, and kudos to Brooke who managed to have some wonderful amongst all the unbearable, and kudos to Momma who had the strength to hold on 🙂
