{Warning: This post is full of both hyperbole and sarcasm. Proceed with caution}

The other day, an editor from The Mighty reached out to ask if they could publish a post I’d recently written called Listening. The post is an important one to me and I was happy to share it.

The editor asked for a photo to accompany it. I’d put one on the original post, but it wasn’t the one I’d wanted, it was simply the one I could find at the time. I knew exactly which photo I wanted; I just had to get my hands on it.

After a fruitless and frustrating search, I asked Luau if he remembered the picture. “The one where she looks like she’s whispering in your ear,” I said. “She was five-ish. I took it while we were waiting for a table at Black Eyed Susan’s.” (Meanwhile, when someone asked me yesterday how I’d spent Friday night, I literally couldn’t remember. Go figure.)

“Are you sure we were waiting for a table?” he asked. “I thought we were at the table.”

This is my life, friends.

“Well,” I said, “that’s the way I remember it, but then again, I can’t tell you what we did Friday night, so who knows.”

He went searching. Little did I know that he would put three hours into the quest or that the Internet would go down while he was searching or that he would essentially be ready to kill to someone by the time he was done. I could just picture the scene at home.

Snake pits, boulders, angry natives and various other snafus be damned, he found it. After hearing about the whole saga, I felt so guilty that I didn’t even point out that we were waiting for a table. Hey, these are the sacrifices we make in the name of love, people.

Anyway, this was the photo.

What’s funny is that she didn’t actually tell secrets then. She would just put her mouth up to your ear and, well, that was pretty much it. But it’s just so perfect. All that she was saying without saying a word.

But there was more. A whole series in fact, that I’d completely forgotten existed. It was like stumbling across lost treasure. Or, um,  being handed a treasure chest for which someone else just spent the last three hours digging, but let’s not get bogged down by technicalities.

There was this one.

All snark aside, I am so grateful to my Indiana Jones for sticking with the mission. You’re a good man, babe.
